Nintendo Switch OLED’s screen burn-in numbers are here

For the uninitiated, screen burn-in is a genuine possibility with OLEDs. It refers to an image —be it navigation icons or an in-game image — remaining visible as a ghostly background, even when the on-screen image has changed. This can happen because of the same image remaining on your screen for a long time, with screen brightness also playing a role in it.

And as the name itself suggests, the Switch OLED is not exempt from these issues. But just how long does it take before you see some ghosting? According to Zach from SwitchForce, that would be 3600 hours. That is almost 5 months of the same image appearing on your screen non-stop. But the best part is yet to come, as Zach has even more information to share.

Crediting YouTuber Wulff Den for the testing, Zach notes that at 3600 hours users would only notice a slight burn-in on their screens. While it is not desirable, it would not keep Nintendo fans from their hardcore gaming adventures.

However, there is a threshold at which this becomes a more severe problem. Add an extra 1800 hours on top of the 3600 hours estimate, and you truly have a recipe that could ruin your day.

At that point, not only would the burn-in be noticeable, but actually hamper the quality of your play. Although, this isn’t a concern unless you plan on sitting at a static screen for over 5400 hours.
