Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg aka PewDiePie is one of the biggest independent content creators on the platform YouTube, only surpassed by MrBeast. Currently, Felix is in a self-proclaimed ‘retired’ phase of his career. Unlike his previous self, Felix now uploads Vlogs and reaction videos in lengthy intervals. 

Recently Felix made an appearance in the beloved anime (sort of) podcast, Trash Taste. In his conversation with the Trash Taste hosts, Joey Bizinger aka the Anime Man, Garnt Maneetapho aka Gigguk, and Connor Colquhoun aka CDawgVA, they talked about the changes in the YouTube content meta and how Pewdiepie and MrBeast influenced it

PewDiePie is one of the OG gamers on YouTube. In his long career, he was one of the first individuals who made video game commentary videos with cam footage. He alongside Jacksepticeye and Markiplier are deemed the “big three” of the gaming scene on YouTube, whose influence helped establish the formula.

However, when the times changed, Pewds had to adapt to it. Resulting in making edgy content like Filthy Frank and Idubbz, known as the “Filthy Frank Era”. Although this also didn’t last for long because of the infamous ‘ad-pocalyse’. After this, YouTube had to tighten its policies to attract advertisers. In his conversation with Trash Taste Pewds recalled the past content and how the meta has shifted once again.

According to them, now everyone is trying to copy MrBeast or desperately making efforts to attract his attention. “The whole genre is mimicking one person. It really didn’t happen before,” said CDawgVA as they talked about MrBeast wannabes. They also talked about how there have been and still are some ‘PewDiePie knockoffs’, but none of them were as wild as this.

In the end, both PewDiePie and MrBeast are the trailblazers of YouTube. During their reign, both of them have set some examples that have defined a whole generation of influencers and the content meta of the platform. Currently, PewDiePie is living in Japan with his wife, Marzia. A few months ago, the couple made headlines as they revealed that they were pregnant with their first child.
