Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
Despite releasing in 2015, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is still a great experience every time. The stunning surroundings of late 1800s London still look great. The dynamic weather makes things more interesting, even more so when it’s rainy. Trying to take back the city from the Templars Knights, Jacob and Evie make attempts at hitting at the heart of organized crime itself. The foliage is great, making it blend with the background. A Ray Tracing upgrade should be definitely warranted, when it comes to AC: Syndicate.

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt
The world, the lighting, the characters, everything about the Witcher 3 was incredible. It’s sometimes almost baffling how this game came out in 2015. Both the original release as well as the Next Gen update were incredible to watch on the screen. Play as Geralt of Rivia to slay monsters and find your daughter, the storyline of the game was truly “wild”. Rockstar Games once again set industry benchmarks with this game, much like with RDR2 or GTA V.

Assassin’s Creed Origins
Set in 49 BCE, in ancient Egypt, the environment design of the game still looks visually mesmerizing. Players have to control Bayek, a Medjay, to find his abducted son from the Templars, who have taken Khemu to the Temple of Amun. Complete the challenges that the Templars throw at you to get back your son, in this most historically accurate depiction of ancient Egypt in popular media to date. AC: Origins not only just hold up till today but are considered to be even visually better than many newer titles. All the more impressive to remember this came out in 2017.

Batman: Arkham Knight
Batman’s cape also has water physics. That’s already pretty impressive. With a wide range of colors in a Gothic set-up, Arkham Knight almost reminds us of Tim Burton’s Batverse. The neon lighting creates a surrealistic environment, which you should make your ally to save Gotham City from your former sidekick. The story was great, the lighting, the weather mechanics, everything was top-notch in Batman: Arkham Knight. Almost hard to believe it launched in 2015. While the Joker, is almost always the main culprit behind something bad in Gotham City, in this game he lends a helping hand to the Gotham Knight.

Assassin’s Creed Unity
This game is almost 10 years old now! Set during the French Revolution from 1789 to 1794, AC: Unity boasts grand aesthetics and art direction. The building designs were impeccable, which makes the game still a great world to just roam around. As a member of The Brotherhood, Dorian strives to expose the truth behind the Revolution. On his journey, he also looks for the people responsible for the death of his adoptive father. While the game does suffer somewhat from diversity in environment design, the cityscape more than compensates for that.

Metro Exodus
To be honest, this game isn’t very old, but in terms of technology, it’s based on a backdated method compared to nowadays. Despite running on 4A Engine, the developers’ attention to detail was spellbinding in Metro: Exodus. Surviving a nuclear war in 2013, a handful of people set up the Metro system. However, an attack on one of the districts exposes the corruption and infighting in Metro. Disillusioned, Artyom leaves the Spartan Order to prove that humans still exist outside of Metro, which takes him on multiple journeys to the surface. Cloth physics and environment creation of the game were amazing, which makes the game still feel pretty slick even to this day.

Final Fantasy XV
The Square Enix title was released back in 2016. Yet, the game’s environment design managed to design photorealistic visuals. In a fantastical world, realism and surrealism are meshed together by the devs that help to create almost dream-like surroundings in Final Fantasy XV. Attention to detail, atmospheric elements, and lighting, all make this title a memorable experience, even with Final Fantasy XVI shifting paradigms altogether. While on his way to get wed, Prince Noctis learns that all of his family and his fiancé are killed by an invading army. Incredible creatures and impressive gameplay make this game still on par with many modern releases.
