When Netflix announced an upcoming movie adaptation of the renowned action FPS, Gears of War, the whole community had one actor in mind for the main role, Dave Bautista. The fanbase couldn’t believe their eyes when the American actor donned the iconic armor to make things ‘easier’ for Netflix. 

The Gears of War gaming franchise by Epic Games is one of the most iconic and influential games in the TPS genre. The first GoW was released back in 2006 and it quickly made its mark on the scene with its adrenaline-pumping action-oriented gameplay and hyper-masculine characters. So it is no surprise that when it came to the movie adaptation, Dave Bautista was the favorite choice among the fans.

On November 11, 2022, Bautista posted a tweet with a video clip from the Gears of War 5 DLC trailer. In the clip, Bautista could be seen donning the iconic armor. With his signature badass gusto, he said, “This is my Kinda Sh*t”. While wearing a pair of black glasses, toward the end of the clip he concluded, “it’s about damn time.”

His Tweet had the caption, “I can’t make this any easier.” This was clearly directed towards Netflix to let them know, the Guardians of the Galaxy actor couldn’t make things easier for the casting for their upcoming Gears of War movie. Dave Bautista and Gears of War have a long history with each other.  

The connection between Gears of War and Dave Bautista 

Dave Bautista is already a character in the Gears of War universe. In Gears of War 5 DLC, Dave Bautista made an appearance as a playable character. The clip that Dave shared in his tweet was from a trailer that announced his cameo in the 5th GoW. But Dave wasn’t satisfied by just appearing in the game. He wanted to become his favorite character. 

So much so that when he was approached for a Fast and Furious movie, all Dave could think about was Gears of War. “They wanted to talk to me about Fast and the Furious, and I said ‘I’m not interested, let’s talk about [Gears of War character] Marcus Fenix,” said the former WWE legend. 

Recently Dave announced that he is no longer going to appear in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies as Drax the Destroyer. This is a huge indicator that the actor is available to take on other big roles. Also looking at the actor’s passion for the role and fans’ anticipation, this time it may become a reality for Dave Bautista to finally don the shoes of his ‘dream role’.
