The survival horror genre certainly has an audience of its own. Unarguably the year 2023 has been a moving year for eSports with the launch of various giants across the spectrum of genres. The story remains the same for survival horror genres with the projected lineup of releases. But as they say “too many cooks spoil the broth”, the makers of the Stranger Things actor-starred giant have made a not-so-surprising decision.
The reboot of Alone in the Dark has been subjected to fan speculations for a while now. The project was expected to be released in October this year. Following the series of events, the developers have creatively improvised. As confirmed officially by the developers, the Alone in the Dark reboot will be remaining in the dark for some time now and the reason is interesting.

Stranger Things star-featured virtual horror flick is postponed
The publisher stated the game would now launch in January in order to give developer Pieces Interactive more time to work on the project when it made the announcement on its social media channels on Tuesday. They tweeted, “Horror games thrive on the eerie embrace of solitude, something that is impossible to achieve in a gaming month as busy as October. To ensure a breathtaking experience for everyone, we have made the decision to move the release of #AloneInTheDark to January 16, 2024.”

Adding to the delay announcement the developers quoted, “Let’s face it: There are too many amazing games coming out this October. You want to play them all, we want to play them all, but there is simply not enough time.” Basically, the developers have decided to not release the project in an intense clash of giant titles like Spider-Man 2 and their horror rival Alan Wake 2.
This isn’t the first time this year that any developer has altered the release dates of their project to avoid clashes with rivals. Baldur’s Gate 3, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage also implemented a similar strategy. Even Alan Wake 2 was delayed initially to avoid a clash with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
What’s the hype around Alone in the Dark reboot?
David Harbour portrayed the role of the Sheriff in the iconic Stranger Things TV series. When the confirmation of his joining the reboot of Alone in the Dark hit the internet, the gaming community was left thrilled. Moreover, a majority of the hype built around the title can be attributed to the Stranger Things star’s association with the project. The actor being a part of an already established horror classic makes his involvement with the virtual horror verse more special.

For most fans, this simple inclusion also implies the quality of the content. Unfortunately, we’ll be waiting for a lot more days than expected to figure out if the title keeps up to the expectations.
