2023 has been a stellar year for gamers. The year started strong with Hogwarts Legacy and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. And the year kept going strong with the massive release of Starfield. While many big games like Spider-Man 2 have gone gold and are ready for release, titles still in development like GTA 6 could be in jeopardy.

The threat comes from the strike being planned by SAG-AFTRA. The strike has been active since July 14 and became a major movement when it combined with the WGA strike. While the WGA strike is looking to end soon, the SAG-AFTRA strike has taken a step towards major video game companies.

In a statement issued by the SAG-AFTRA president earlier, they targeted major gaming companies with some demands. Recently, the union came together to vote on their demand. Shockingly, 98.32 percent of the members voted in favor of the strike. This has put companies like Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts, Epic Games, and Take-Two Interactive in the line of fire.

Furthermore, this also puts titles in development like GTA 6, Skull and Bones, and Wolverine in threat of delay too. If the strike takes place, these titles will incur heavy financial and development losses. With an already massive budget of GTA 6, this strike would not be a favorable outcome for Take-Two.

However, there is still hope for the titles in development. According to reports, there will be bargaining meetings on September 26, 27, and 28. These meetings will decide the make-or-break situations for these video games. And the strike is expected to be a long one too by many netizens.

A representative for gaming companies, Audrey Cooling, said, “We all want a fair contract that reflects the important contributions of SAG-AFTRA-represented performers in an industry that delivers world-class entertainment to billions of players around the world. We are negotiating in good faith and hope to reach a mutually beneficial deal as soon as possible.”
