Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launch is almost here and fans of the Pokemon franchise everywhere cannot wait to get their hands on this new and improved installment in the series. As with every sequel, these games also have a bunch of new features.

With just a couple of days left for its release, now would be the best time to jolt the memory of all the things one must know before diving into the first installment of the ninth generation of Pokemon video games. So, without further delay, here are the five new things that every fan should know before starting.

A New Region

As we all know, Pokemon games usually feature a fictionalized version of real locations. The previous few games took us to Miami, Europe, and even France. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s region Paldea is based in Spain. Some fans have even noticed that the map of Paldea closely resembles that of Spain.

This is the first Pokemon game in the main series to feature a truly open-world environment that players can explore without bounds.

No forced Battles!

Finally, those NPCs creepily waiting for you to walk past them are gone! You can just explore this game without any fear of people looking at you and forcing you into a battle. Instead, you can approach people and offer to battle if you want.

Legendary Pokemon from Day One

You get a Legendary almost at the start of the game. Its type depends on which game you choose as both Scarlet and Violet have different legendary.

These legendaries would help you with the transversal of the region. As they can run, climb, swim and fly while carrying you on their backs.

Non-Linear Story Quests

There are three story quests in Scarlet and Violet and you can approach them in any way, any time you wish. This is the first time that a Pokemon game features a non-linear progression.
Looks like developer Game Freak has looked back at all their previous Pokemon games and decided to do something different. This game features the kind of improvements that made Breath of the Wild such a legendary game.
