1. During Johnny Cage’s movie filming scene, he articulates the line, “It belongs in a museum,” directly referencing a famous line from the movie Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, in which Indiana Jones exclaims the quote when discussing valuable artifacts.

2. After Johnny Cage triumphs over Katara Valor, he hurls a shield at Katara, potentially alluding to Captain America and his iconic circular shield. However, it’s important to note that this reference may not be explicitly linked to Captain America, as his throwing shield is one of his signature moves in action films.

3. In a scene within the secret agenda chapter, Johnny passionately exclaims, “Get away from her, you b****,” mirroring a renowned line from the 1986 sci-fi horror film Aliens. In the movie, during a battle with the Alien Queen in a robotic exoskeleton, Ripley asserts, “Get away from her, you b****!”

4. Johnny invokes “going full predator” while discussing the Reptile’s invisibility ability, paying homage to the classic 1987 action film Predator. The reference was made as the Reptile mimics the invisibility ability of the famous predator.

5. The rest of the references are made during the character select screen. While facing Raiden, Johnny makes a reference to having seen “stranger things,” indirectly nodding to the popular Netflix series Stranger Things, celebrated for its supernatural themes and 1980s pop culture references.

6. While  selecting Johnny against Nitara, Johnny inquires whether she possesses the ability to fly or if she simply engages in “falling with style.” This remark playfully alludes to a famous quote by the character Buzz Lightyear in the movie Toy Story: “That wasn’t flying; that was falling with style!”

7. Johnny’s comment characterizing Nitara as a “fox” may subtly insinuate the actress Megan Fox, who lent her voice to the character in the game. This is also a reference to Megan Fox as she played the part of a vampire in Jennifer’s body and with Nitara being a vampire too, the role fits perfectly. There is also a double innuendo as the term “fox” is often used to describe an attractive female.

8. During an interaction with Raiden, Johnny emphatically proclaims, “You are the champion, my friend, I’ll keep on fighting until the end,” explicitly referencing the lyrics from the Queen song “We Are the Champions.”

9. Johnny makes a remark about Smoke’s mask, suggesting that “It’s smoking,” likely alluding to the 1994 film The Mask, where the central character dons a magical mask that grants extraordinary powers.
