Twitch Viewership Hits Strong Numbers in January Despite GTA V Losing Top Spot

Live video streaming platform Twitch gained a great height in the first month of 2022. When it comes to its most-viewed games, then the big winners included the likes of GTA V, League of Legends, Escape From Tarkov, and Valorant.

While Twitch amassed over 2 billion hours of viewing time, the games on the platform also reached new figures in January. As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, many titles witnessed a massive jump in their watched hours. To be precise, last month proved to be a boon for League of Legends and Escape From Tarkov.

Talking about Twitch’s most-watched video games, in numbers, then League of Legends topped its rivals by a strong margin. It amassed 184,282,005 hours in the last month, according to StreamElements, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz.

Interestingly, League of Legends wasn’t this popular in 2021’s last month, December, on Twitch. It was in fact, behind Rockstar’s GTA V. The latter, unfortunately, slipped behind LoL this time, for January, while still accumulating 152,328,213 hours of viewership.

Then there is Escape From Tarkov, also witnessing an increase in its watch time. The online multiplayer from Battlestate Games was viewed for 93,334,264 hours in January 2022, compared to its performance in December.

On the other hand, extremely popular multiple shooter VALORANT faced a decline last month, with 84,354,184 hours. It’s less than the viewership that it generated a month before, in December.

It simply means that fan favorites like GTA V and Valorant, both witnessed a fall in terms of viewership for the first month of this year. But it’s great to see League of Legends coming in full form, reaching the top on Twitch.

Speaking of the platform itself, then it dominated other rivals like Facebook Gaming. While the latter gained a record viewership of 617 million hours in January, Twitch was in a league of its own, having over 2 billion watched hours in its kitty.
