Man pleads guilty to theft and fraud charges for stealing PlayStation controllers
Stealing controllers is one charge, but trying to sell those controllers takes this crime to the next level. That is exactly what this man did. Shawn Roberts stole nine PlayStation controllers from B&M Bargains. The store was located in Barrows. The incident occurred on June 22. The total value of these controllers was nearly $230.
Following the theft, the man then tried to sell these controllers. He attempted to sell seven of those nine controllers. As a result, in addition to the theft charges, Shawn’s charges included fraud as a result of ‘false representation’.

After the entire ordeal, the South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court heard the charges against him. When Roberts appeared in court, he pled guilty to charges of fraud and theft. Following his guilty plea, his case is now sent to the Preston Crown Court. At the Preston Crown Court, he will be sentenced next month, on August 8. Until his sentencing date, he remains out on bail.
The entire ordeal is an example of the extent people go in order to get these peripherals. Initially, when PlayStation 5 consoles were initially being sold, the term scalpers became quite prominent. These individuals would buy up multiple consoles and then sell them on third-party websites at higher prices. This turned out to be a huge problem, especially since these consoles were in shortage.
