What made 2021 Sentinels the best in VCT?

Recently, ShahZaM talked about what makes a great roster. He said, “Obviously capability is one thing but I think the most important thing is like people that work well together.” This made him contemplate the time he had in Sentinels. When he was in Sentinels, ShahZaM performed the duties of IGL. And many fans would commend him for that, stating he picked the best players for the best roles. But the 29-year-old has now shared his honest opinion on what happened at that time of role-picking.

“We didn’t even know what the roles were,” confessed the former Sentinels IGL. “We made the team before the game came out.” He stated that they were unaware of what roles to assign to players before knowing the game. They just picked the roles before the tournament.

The team of Sentinels Valorant was formed by bringing players from different FPS titles. The first roster of Sentinels included Overwatch player Sinatraa, Apex Legends pro zombs, and Counter-Strike pros ShahZaM, SicK, and dapr. They rounded up this roster by signing TenZ from C9.

But this crew performed better than any other team present in the world for Valorant in 2021. And ShahZaM credits teamwork and bonding to this success. He shared the example of Tier 2 matchups, stating skill levels are comparable in all players.

But the thing that takes them to the Tier 1 level is their mindset. The will to grind and a positive mindset are what is needed for victory according to the current G2 player. Well, the 2020 Sentinels team has now parted ways, but fans hope all the pros keep playing Valorant.
