Indie video games platform itch.io has made an unprecedented move, in support of the Black Lives Matter movement in the USA. The gaming platform has reached out to its gigantic community of indie game developers for support. Itch.io is now offering a monumental 742 games on its platform for only $5. The total price of the individual games amounts up to $3,468.
The entirety of the games, which is packaged as ‘The Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality’ was made as a part of itchi.io’s show of support during the nationwide civil unrest against systemic oppression. The gaming platform has created a goal of $2 million, which would go directly to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and Community Bail Fund. The people behind Itch.io had this to say to their customers.
“We live in a time of racial injustice, inequality, and police brutality against black people. We hope that everyone takes a stand in any way that they can. We’ve partnered with creators from all across our platform to support organizations that are working directly with those affected.”

At the time of writing this article, the donation portal had raised over $1.6 million. This is a monumental donation, which is substantially more than Itch.io’s peers. The money will go towards Black Lives Matter, in the form of bail payments, legal fees, etc. The online store markets itself as “an open marketplace for independent digital creators with a focus on independent video games.”

Besides this, they have pledged to make a sizeable donation, which is twice as much as major triple-A studios and publishers in the industry. Their commitment to the cause seems extremely admirable, and will probably yield $2 million in less than a few days.
The donation portal can be found here. The Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality will be purchasable for $5 until the 14th of this month.
