In 2019, at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Musk revealed how important video games have been in his life. While talking about it, he said, “I probably wouldn’t have started programming if it wasn’t for video games or wouldn’t have been as interested in computers and tech if it wasn’t for video games. I think video games are a very powerful force for getting young kids interested in technology; it has way bigger knock-on effects than people may realize.”

Elon’s unique approach to life

Elon Musk’s love for video games came at an early age. While his peers struggled to learn things, the 12-year-old developed a video game using the Commodore Vic-20. It was a space shooter game called ‘Blastar.’ Musk sold the game’s code to a computer magazine two years later and made $500 from it.

In his later years, he worked at a gaming startup, which again adds up to his love for video games. During one of his birthdays, Elon ordered a massive statue of the Vault Boy, the mascot of Fallout 76.

Apart from this, there is a unique thought process that Elon uses during interviews before hiring his employees. He believes that most software engineers, at some point, invested their time in video games. Talking about his interview philosophy at the E3 interview, he said, “If people had to try to create incredibly realistic graphics using very little computer power, it’s a hard problem, so a lot of people had to write really tight code and come up with really clever ideas to do that.”

Elon has benefitted enough from video games. He gave credit to the popular game ‘Cyberpunk’ for inspiring him to build a Tesla pickup truck. At the E3, he also revealed the possibility of games being added to Tesla vehicles.
