Sony softens its stance on Roblox for PlayStation

Roblox continues to be one of the most popular platforms for gaming. While it does not have the upgraded visuals that the current generation or conventional PC games offer, the platform created memorable games over the years. However, while Roblox came on Xbox consoles, PlayStation showed no signs of getting it to their consoles. This looks to be changing.

As the FTC V.S. Microsoft case progressed, fans found out why Roblox never made it to PlayStation. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO revealed it was due to the worry of inappropriate content. Ryan revealed there is a large player base on PlayStation consoles who are underage. As a result, they kept Roblox off their console to keep children from being exposed to inappropriate content. Since Roblox is a place where people can create their games, it is difficult to monitor what content is included.

What changed the entire matter is Roblox introducing a content rating system back in 2021. Because of this, content inappropriate for children can be controlled. As a result, Ryan spoke about Sony’s decision to keep Roblox off PlayStation sometime last year.

He said, “Historically, because of the large number of children that play on the PlayStation, we have been very careful with regards to opening them up to anything that could potentially exploit them. Over the last couple of years, however, we have reviewed those policies and relaxed a little on this. We have been conservative for too long, and now we are currently engaging with people at Roblox. We hope that the situation will change.”

Despite Ryan’s promising words, there is no update on the situation so far. Fans can only hope a PlayStation port for Roblox is in the works. A deal like this can be mutually beneficial, especially since Roblox is quite prominent among gamers. Ryan’s statements could be indicative of PlayStation preparing for tense competition amidst Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision. It is possible Sony is trying to increase its player base by offering varied content.
