“We Want Twitter Back!”: Fans Heckle Elon Musk at Valorant Champions Tour as the X Boss Faces Heat Over Platform Rebranding

At the end of last year, one piece of news made headlines all around the world: Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. Bought at a staggering price of $44 billion, Musk became the owner of the leading social media platform. Perhaps the most significant change was rebranding the iconic brand to X. With many people not happy with the change, the resistance is being felt everywhere, including the gaming community.

Musk recently attended the Valorant Champions Tour. Fans heckled the billionaire and booed him, clearly wanting the iconic Twitter back the way it used to be.

It is no secret that Musk is a gamer. The business tycoon generally takes to Twitter, now X, to share his love for Elden Ring as well as Diablo 4. Now, he was seen at the Valorant Champions Tour, indicating his love for the e-sport. While Musk was probably there as a fan, he couldn’t have expected the reaction he got from sections of the crowd.

As the camera panned around to show Musk sitting in the crowd, the crowd began heckling and booing the billionaire. People could not help but notice the massive reaction fans had on seeing Musk, perhaps even bigger than the reactions other celebrities at the event received. Even the casters could not help but crack a laugh once they caught wind of the chant fans had going. Instances of banter like this one are the reason why fans wanted LAN tournaments back after COVID-19.

Fans kept chanting, “We want Twitter back,” indicating they were not fans of the change in name. It looks like Valorant fans are certainly not happy with Twitter becoming X. The change in name was done to direct the app to the vision Musk had for it. His goal is to make it into an app that is much more than social media, into one that does everything.

Despite the heckling incident, Elon Musk’s presence at the event was a big boost to the viewership. The billionaire went through interviews in the promotional area, all the while holding his son in his arms. Musk later found a seat to watch the Evil Geniuses take on Paper Rex in the final. Evil Geniuses took the win after a magnificent tournament run.

While fans want Twitter back, it looks like nothing can deter Elon Musk from fulfilling his vision for the company.
