“We Were Prepared for the Situation” – Gamescom Head Mentions Strong Security Measures Following an Infamous Gatecrashing Incident During the Opening Night Live

A stage invasion incident took Keighley and attendees by surprise at Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live. Gamescom 2023 is at the center of community attention right now. While host Geoff Keighley has stated that fans shouldn’t be expecting a lot of new game announcements from the event, we’re obviously not paying much heed to his words. With so much focus on the event, it’s understandable that a few unscripted moments will be taking place. However, the security team at the event was quick to react and subdue the stage invader within seconds.

While such incidents are undesired, their occurrence cannot be ruled out entirely. The Gamescom head later appreciated the event’s security personnel and claimed that the team was “prepared for the situation“.

Gamescom 2023 promised a lot of things to fans over the past months. The event kicked off today and shortly after the beginning, an unprecedented situation confronted the event’s host. Within minutes of the show’s start, Keighley was interrupted by a stage invader. The fan attempted to snatch away the mic from Keighley’s hand and yell “Bill Clinton wants to play GTA 6“. However, the situation was quickly put under control by the vigilant security staff.

Speaking about the incident, Gamescom head Christian Baur said the safety of the event and the attending fans are of paramount importance for the hosts. Baur also reported that the security was ready for such an incident to happen and that is the reason why the stage invader was apprehended so quickly. Baur mentioned “… we were prepared for that situation“, especially since the German Chancellor Mrs Merkel was expected to attend the event.

Gamescom 2023 is the biggest EU event of the year

Fans have been looking forward to this year’s Gamescom for a long time. Producer and the show’s host Geoff Keighley had been creating a lot of hype around the event and fans couldn’t wait to hear about all the games that were to be announced at the event in Germany.

From Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, a ton of A-listers made fans attend the show in large numbers. However, at an event of such proportions, security is always an issue and Gamescom 2023 couldn’t escape a few fans trying to gorge on the media attention.

However, the unexpected stage invasion incident did put a sour taste in everyone’s mouth. Baur also mentioned the security risks are not only increased by individuals but also by creators who consider themselves to be above the Safer Space Policy of Gamescom.
