“We’re Back Into Cool Dads Status” – Chris Pratt and Charlie Day Share How Being Mario and Luigi in the Upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie Has Won Their Kid’s Hearts

The actors behind the upcoming movie based on the iconic Nintendo Gaming Franchise, Mario, have shared that being in the movie has helped them gain some ‘cool’ points from their family, especially their kids. Playing the iconic game characters has made them “cool dads” in their children’s eyes. 

Marvel’s The Guardian of The Galaxy famed Chris Pratt and Pacific Rim: Uprising movie star Charlie Day will be seen in the roles of the iconic plumber brother duo, Mario and Luigi. In a recent interview, the duo shared how important and influential this ‘gig’ was for them, both in terms of career and personal life.

During the interview with ET, Pratt and Day shared their journey of becoming cherished by their children thanks to the movie. “We’re cool again,” said Day, “We’re back into cool dads status.” Seeing their fathers play the iconic gaming characters on the big screen has given their children enough reasons to add their dads to the “Cool” charts.

Charlie’s wife, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, said that their 11-year-old boy Russell couldn’t have been happier when he learned his father will be Luigi. She said, “This is a big deal in the Day household. This is no joke this, this gig.”

On the other hand, Pratt said, his 10-year-old son Jack was also elated about his father’s new role. However, to his despair, young Jack loves the franchise, but he is more of a Luigi fan (played by Charlie Day) than his father’s character Mario. 

“Like he plays Smash Brothers and he’s like, ‘Dad, I own at Smash, I own everybody at Smash. And I’m Luigi. I think Luigi is a better player,'” Pratt said, laughing. “So he’s always kind of leaning against the characters that I play!” The Super Smash fan Jack may be a Luigi main, but after the movie, who knows maybe his choice would change.

The actors shared how getting to play these roles was the opportunity of a lifetime for them. Growing up with Nintendo and Mario games, the actors had a nostalgic trip playing the big screen characters. The Super Mario Bros. movie is set to release on April 5, 2023.
