This is how Activision wanted to build its Marvel-like ‘Call of Duty Cinematic Universe’
Back in 2015, Activision planned to take on rival Disney’s MCU with its own interconnected universe. Hence, Activision Blizzard Studios was founded. Hateful Eight’s producer Stacey Sher and former Disney executive Nick van Dyk were made the two co-presidents of this production company. Obviously, their main objective was to grow the brand of Call of Duty and turn it into an all-conquering cinematic universe.

According to them, there were already multiple scripts being worked upon that time. “We have plotted out many years,” Sher told The Guardian.

Per the two co-presidents of Activision Blizzard Studios, they had a group of writers as well to plan out strategies. “There’ll be a film that feels more like Black Ops, the story behind the story. The Modern Warfare series looks at what it’s like to fight a war with the eyes of the world on you. And then maybe something that is more of a hybrid, where you are looking at private, covert operations, while a public operation is going on.”

The plan was also to have a more broader and inclusive adaptation of Call of Duty games onto the big screen. Basically they were looking to make it look like a “tentpole Marvel-esque movie.”
It’s been nearly six years now since this ambitious plan was unveiled on a bigger scale. Unfortunately, there’s been no significant venture made by the Activision Blizzard Studios just yet. Seems like the people at the company are still figuring out the best way to adapt the fan-favorite gaming franchise into live-action.
