Following not-so-favorable reactions to Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, Activision has decided to leave no stone unturned in giving a fantastic experience with the next major installment. So far, the new game has amassed enough hype ahead of its awaited release. Perhaps the biggest reason for its growing craze among the fans is the inclusion of a Zombies mode.

Modern Warfare III will mark the debut of the undead in a franchise other than Treyarch’s Black Ops. Recently, the makers dropped a brand new trailer revealing the origin of Zombies in the MW universe. Apart from offering some captivating cinematics, it has also unveiled some hints regarding the big threat in the upcoming Zombies storyline inside 2023’s Call of Duty title.

Who could be the mastermind behind Zombies in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III?

Talking about the newly launched trailer, it has already made it clear that Viktor Zakhaev, the Ultranationalist arms dealer and enemy of Task Force 141, is building on something evil. Which is quite evident from the trailer in which he is seen dropping a vial containing Aetherium on the ground. The latter results into an incursion, turning all the living and dead beings into Zombies.

While Zakhaev can be considered a strong antagonist in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Zombies’ story, he’s not actually the main villain. In fact, it seems like someone else might be controlling him as well as the Zombies. But who?

Giving it a deep thought, one can assume that the character of Samantha Maxis could be the real mastermind behind Zombies. One reason that supports this theory is the fact that she was the last person to enter the Dark Aether during the events of Black Ops Cold War. Now if the current theory holds true, she may come back as a corrupted individual, similar to how she was in the Aether timeline. It’s been the case with her in previous Black Ops entries as well.

As for the mode featuring the undead, there’s a lot to get excited for. Seems like hardcore fans are in for a massive treat when MWIII will eventually release worldwide.

Zombies mode explained in Modern Warfare III

Following the launch of a brand new trailer for the Zombies mode, the devs have reiterated that it will follow a PvE format. Which means players will team up together to fight hordes of the undead in an open-world map.

The mode will feature a survival extraction experience, slightly similar to how DMZ works in Warzone. When it comes to the objective, players will embark on the Operation Deadbolt in order to stop Zakhaev from succeeding in his evil plans.

But again, it will be interesting to see who is the actual ‘big bad’ controlling him and the Zombies. Is it really Maxis though? Only time will tell the answer to burning question.
