It is finally time; Hollywood has extended its hand towards Bloodborne. While Sony has no news regarding the game’s sequel or even a remake, there’s a report suggesting they are instead working on a movie based on the horror souls-like. When such news makes it to the wild, fans cannot help but ask but one thing, Who would be involved in it?

Who would write it? Who would produce it? And most importantly, who in the world would take on the massive task of directing a movie based on such a beloved franchise? While there are some names given for the writer and the producer, no hint has been dropped about who might direct it whatsoever.

Who should direct Sony’s Bloodborne movie?

Bloodborne is considered to be a very important franchise for Sony. They have plenty of blockbuster games; God of War, The Last of Us, and Uncharted can easily pull the crowd and become massive successes. But some games are made for a very specific group of people, serving a niche. That’s what Bloodborne does: it serves people who love soulslikes and it serves gamers who love environmental horror experiences.

Making a movie with such a unique title can be hard. It can prove a challenge, and such a challenge needs a team that understands it. A producer who understands what the project needs to be. A writer who grasps every single concept of this game and writes it down into a screenplay, and finally, a director who tries this game once before working on it. Or someone who already loves these games. It can be hard to find such a person, but a person like Zack Snyder can be considered if we are to translate the big screen as it is. Let’s not forget his work on Watchmen.

He is also very good at panel-by-panel conversion of graphic novels to movies. He did that with 300, and it turned out incredible. His work on Dawn of the Dead was mind-blowing, where horror was plentiful. If someone somehow convinces him to take the source material seriously, he can be the best person to bring this franchise to the big screen.

FromSoftware and Sony Rumored to Be Working on a New Soulsborne Game

Only confirmed roles for this movie are currently those of the producer and the writer. Producer Lorzeno Di Bonaventura, a person very well known for developing or, one can say, manufacturing some highly mediocre video game adaptations such as Doom and Dead Rising, and writer Darren Lemke, who has written numerous movies over the years, out of which only Shazam stands out.

Hence, the only person who can save this project is a good, reputable filmmaker. Here’s hoping they find such a person.

What can be Sony’s plan behind this movie?

There’s always a thought that Uncharted can be made into an action summer blockbuster feature, and The Last of Us can be developed into a Walking Dead but more humane show. These franchises are already movies or TV series before they are even made into them, but a game like Bloodborne is not such a straightforward game to make. It does not have a straightforward story; it is more convoluted, and its story is more environmental than the others mentioned above. So why did Sony choose to develop it?

Are they starting the campaign around a sequel? There are already rumors of FromSoftware developing a PlayStation exclusive. Maybe the movie would ensure that the franchise has a more widespread reach before the sequel arrives, making it an even larger success than its predecessor. No one knows what’s going on at Sony right now. One thing is for sure, though: fans will be waiting for this movie.
