Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be shutting down operations shortly
The real reason behind the cancellation is quite vague. The game had been receiving regular updates and events and even had a few final events to mark its conclusion. An official statement by Niantic was also released, which again failed to offer a proper reason for this game being laid to rest.

Another reason that is leading Wizards Unite to shut so suddenly could be related to Pikmin Bloom that was released last October. This game is another collaboration between Nintendo and Niantic. The shutting down of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite could have helped Niantic use more resources on Pikmin Bloom.
The in-app purchases in the game became void from December 6, 2021. Now, the game is shutting down in less than 24 hours.

While the fans and Potterheads would be quite upset with this game’s untimely closing, it is in fact quite disheartening how this game never reached the same potential as Pokemon GO. Nevertheless, fans must have enjoyed their experience playing this game while it lasted.
