Call of Duty has been a big part of the gaming world for quite some time now. However, it does not mean every gamer has tried their hand on one of the Call of Duty titles. As a result, developers regularly bring periods of free access that give players the opportunity to try the game.

With Modern Warfare II, Call of Duty had a similar plan of action. Having introduced free-to-play Multiplayer periods before, devs bring the feature back, starting from September 13. While it is a great chance to get new players into the game, it seems Call of Duty has missed the mark this time around. And fans are not pleased, to say the least!

Call of Duty announced it would be running a week of free Multiplayer access for Modern Warfare II. While most fans rejoiced at the news, they were greeted by an additional piece of information that quickly put their celebrations to a halt. The week-long free Multiplayer access would be limited to 2.5 in-match hours per account.

The news came as a big shock for fans, especially since 2.5 hours is close to nothing when it comes to playing Multiplayer. These are numbers one might see from a gamer on an off-day when they do not play the game for as many hours.

Put into consideration that players might play for more hours given the access is only for a week, things really fall into perspective. It feels quite puzzling to understand since it is a move to attract new players into buying the game. It also comes amidst new content coming for Season 5 Reloaded.

Fans were visibly upset at the decision, taking to X to make their disappointment known.

Fans are not happy with the limited access

The entire idea behind the 2.5 in-match hours left players puzzled at the decision. It is very little time to experience the full experience of the Multiplayer. If Call of Duty really wants players to explore all Multiplayer modes, they need to increase access to a limit that does not just stop at 15 matches.

Fans think the entire idea of pushing Season 5 Reloaded content becomes redundant with this time limit. If Call of Duty gave players free access for the entire week, the promotion feels half-hearted, with the “access limited to 2.5 in-match hours” a way of forcing players to buy the game. What is more likely is players who might actually want to buy the game are discouraged from buying Modern Warfare II.

The funny part for most fans was the massive ask Call of Duty made of them. To play the game, players need to download a game worth hundreds of gigabytes, and then get hit with a 2.5 in-match hours condition was appalling.

In all its essence, the free access week feels more like a demo of Modern Warfare II, except this demo does not give access to the campaign. It is a big downgrade from the massive free Multiplayer access promotions Call of Duty ran in the past.
