Surprisingly, The Pokemon Company had officially introduced a new Pokemon for the upcoming video game. In a tweet by the company’s official account, they named the Pokémon “Wiglett, the Garden Eel Pokémon!” And while the fans jumped off of their seats and absorbed the new information, something thrilling was unearthed.

The tweet by the company further said, “It may look like Diglett, but it’s a completely different species of Pokémon. Wiglett pokes a part of its body out of the sand to feed in the ocean.” And amidst puzzled fans, the curiosity of a person took a step ahead. And emerged glorious in unfolding the biological nature of the Pokémon.
Now sure this must sound like a biological lesson, but better to learn it sooner than later. For this purpose, a Reddit user by the name of “u/sdrey” drew instances to explain ‘Regional form’ and ‘Convergent Evolution’. After closely relating to the Reddit thread, one can learn the specifics of the creature’s ancestral history.
Pokemon fan’s biological lesson made things simpler to understand
For ‘Regional Form’ the fan pointed out that Pokemon falling under this category shared the same ancestors and belonged to the same species. Moreover, they have the same Pokedex number and different environmental conditions add up to their features.
Whereas for ‘Convergent Evolution’, Pokemons have different ancestors and belong to different species. They carry the same Pokedex number. And their resembling appearances often occur due to a similar evolution hierarchy.
Thus, it was then found out that Wiglett is different from Diglett. And their resembling appearances make them fall under Convergent Evolution. Consequently, making them occur as different species.
This discovery of a fan, who can be considered a genius, riveted the fans of the Nintendo Switch game. And they couldn’t hold back and added their thoughts regarding the discovery. Here are a few reactions from the Reddit thread:
