There is no denying that Call of Duty has a very intense cheating problem, to say the least. The game’s battle royale mode is plagued with hackers, with wall hacks and aimbots, the hackers, cheaters, and exploiters give the game a bad rep. In fact, the problem is so rampant that Activision are forced to adopt anti-cheat as a part of the next game’s marketing.

Call of Duty and its anti-cheat Ricochet

The Call of Duty community seemed to be fed up with the number of hackers that are seen in the title. In fact, Activision had to reassure the audience that the next title won’t be as bad with the introduction of the game’s new anti-cheat Ricochet. The new anti-cheat appears to be quite effective, and it looks like Activision means business this time.

The anti-cheat will adopt a multi-faceted approach to deal with the scum of the community that is hackers. For starters, a hacker won’t be just banned as a penalty. It appears that the hacker will be banned from all Call of Duty titles. This significantly raises the stakes as a hacker does not have to worry about getting banned from just one title. The cheater now stands at a risk of getting banned from all titles the anti-cheat is spread across.

That is not all as the crux of the anti-cheat lies in its kernel-based drivers; the drivers will get access to a range of software and other crucial information native to the player’s device. This includes but is not limited to a device’s graphic card driver. This makes the anti-cheat more effective as it can detect more suspicious activity more easily.

However, this concept comes with its own share of problems. Controversy has stirred up about the privacy issues as the driver will have constant access to the device. However, Activision has refused this by saying that the anti- cheat Kernel drivers will only be active when the game is launched.

Whether or not Ricochet will be effective, only time will tell.
