Xbox’s “Plan” of Four First-Party Titles a Year

Back in June, the Head of Xbox Game Studio, Matt Booty, stated that Xbox has “turned the corner” on first-party releases. He also expressed Xbox’s aspiration to release four first-party titles in a year.

Now, it seems this aspiration has turned into a plan, according to the CEO of Microsoft Gaming himself, Phil Spencer. About his next year’s plan, Spencer stated in an interview with IGN: “What I can say is we’re going to have more beats to talk about more of what we do because the content lineup is so strong.”

Backing up Booty’s statement of four first-party games a year, Spencer also said: “We have talked about it as an aspiration; now we talk about it as our plan.”

He stated that Xbox has done more than that this year. As of now, this year, Xbox has dropped Hi-Fi Rush, Minecraft Legends, Redfall, Starfield, Forza, and Age of Empire 4. He also regretted Redfall not getting enough responses from the fans, as it was an utter failure.

Starfield to be a “Starting Gun”

The Chief Marketing Officer of Xbox, Jerret West, also shed some light on the plan for upcoming first-party titles. He stated that the release of Starfield is going to be the red carpet for all the upcoming first-party titles. “This is, in my mind, the doorway, almost like a starting gun, to what I think is going to be a multi-year relay race of first-party titles,” West expressed.

As far as first-party titles are concerned, 2024 is looking bright for Xbox. After the release of the highly anticipated Starfield, Forza Motorsport will make its way to the gaming world on October 10. After that, Xbox will enter 2024 with an array of first-party titles.

In 2024, we can expect Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Towerborne, and Avowed from Ninja Theory and Obsidian Entertainment. The story doesn’t end here, as according to West, “we’ve got stories we haven’t told yet as well that are going to unfold in 2024 and 2025,” apart from these releases.
