Xbox has its hands full at the moment. With the acquisition of Activision-Blizzard, Microsoft is currently looking to expand its wings rapidly. Speculations are rife about how the acquisition will affect competition in the industry. While such hypotheses are only natural, the Xbox CEO thinks they have bigger things to focus on right now.

During the legal proceedings, Xbox’s rivals argued that the Microsoft-Activision merger would give the company an unfair advantage. Microsoft denied the allegation and highlighted that both Sony and Nintendo have tons of exclusive titles. On the other hand, Xbox has few such games to flaunt. However, in a recent interview, Microsoft’s Gaming Phil CEO Spencer said that competition isn’t the driving force that motivates the brand, instead it’s the urge to build a community together.

Xbox Chief shares his vision of an Xbox community

Days after the acquisition, the community was eager to know which Activision-Blizzard titles would now leave Sony’s platform in the coming days. However, in the interview with Japan’s Famitsu magazine, Spencer said, “…we’re not pulling anything“. Spencer said that Microsoft is interested in making an Xbox community that can access its games on multiple platforms. Being a part of this community doesn’t limit members to a single platform.

Spencer believes it’s the only meaningful option for Microsoft. According to him, Xbox is responding flexibly to the changes and thinks this multi-platform malleability would help the brand to grow as well. On being asked what the future of Xbox looks like, Phil mentioned that the company looks to give its fans something unique instead of simply following what others are doing.

For Phil Spencer, anyone who plays Xbox games is part of the Xbox community, irrespective of where they’re playing from. With that in mind, Spencer understandably views PC Game Pass users as a significant faction in Xbox’s society. Delivering games to as many players as possible to help this community come together and bond, says Spencer. For Phil, going beyond simple hardware and bringing a seamless gaming experience across platforms becomes more important.

Phil Spencer teases at exciting things to come

Spencer recently made a guest appearance at the BlizzCon 2023 Opening Ceremony. The event is the first major Blizzard arrangement since the acquisition and had fans excited to see how things unfold. At the event, Spencer claimed that Xbox wants to “empower its new colleagues” so that the devs can continue doing what it does best. With the mention of StarCraft, Spencer sparked a flurry of rumors if the popular old-school sci-fi title will be coming to Xbox in a new attire soon.

Along with that, the Xbox Game Pass is also experiencing significant growth and is projected to be a key source of revenue for the company for the foreseeable future. How cool do you think an Xbox-oriented community sounds? Tell us down below!
