The Game Awards Twitter account propagated the news that took aback every franchise fan. They tweeted, “Actress Annie Wersching, who played Tess in The Last of Us, has sadly passed away from cancer at age 45.” The news was hurtful to anyone connected to her and to the ones who cherished her works.

Video game journalist Geoff Keighley voiced his emotions by tweeting, “Devastating news – Annie was incredible in TLOU and 24.” Also, Co-President Neil Druckmann said, “I miss my silly friend who helped bring Tess to life. Annie, you left us way too soon. You will forever be part of the TLoU & Naughty Dog family! 💔.”

TLOU’s developers Naughty Dog tweeted, “We at Naughty Dog are deeply saddened to hear of Annie Wersching’s passing. We keep her in our hearts and memories, and we hope that her family may find peace during this time.” Also, a ‘gofundme’ initiative has been started, and anyone who wishes to donate to the actress’ children can do so by going to the respective website.
