Discord to integrate with YouTube

As per Verge’s report, this feature is set to be called Watch Together and will provide an experience quite similar to sharing screens and broadcasting on Discord servers. The Watch Together button will appear right next to the video and screen, sharing options, and it will allow members to paste their links or even create a playlist of their favorite videos.

There is also a toggle button that allows the other members of the server to control playback.

This might not act as the best substitute for Groovy and Rythm, but users can definitely stream music through this feature. However, users may have to endure YouTube ads during the playback; Discord warns users about ads being played before streaming through this feature.

This is a strategic move to use ads and revenue opportunities for Google; Google had sent legal notices to both Groovy and Rythm. Both these third-party plugins shut down their operations and Google forced them to go offline within days of sending legal notices.

The feature is rolling out on just selected Discord servers in a beta format. But it is expected to be available soon on every server by the end of October. Interested users can test this feature out in Discord’s Game Labs server where it is currently live at the moment.
