The 2023 Ballon d’Or is concluded and Lionel Messi clinched his eighth win thanks to Argentina’s 2022 World Cup glory. While Messi did win the award, Cristiano Ronaldo was also one of the favorites for the prize, given his astounding performance with his club. Streamer IShowSpeed was seen rooting for the Portuguese but ended up starting a standing ovation for the Argentine by accident instead.

Both Messi and Ronaldo were poised as the favorites for the 67th edition of the French award. However, Messi ended up being crowned the champ, and obviously IShowSpeed, being the staunch Ronaldo fan he is, didn’t take the decision with a smile on his face. While his loyalty lay with the Al Nassr star, he had a lot to do with the deafening round of applause for the Argentine legend.

IShowSpeed cues others to clap for Lionel Messi while receiving Ballon d’Or

FIFA streamer IShowSpeed was seen chanting “Ronaldo! Ronaldo!” moments before the winner announcement. However, his disappointment could be noticed once Messi was revealed as the recipient of the 2023 Ballon d’Or Award. The teenager couldn’t believe his idol wasn’t crowned the winner and kept muttering “ain’t no way!. However, he may have been carried over by his frustration so much that his reactions ultimately led to Messi being showered with thundering cheers from the attendees.

His heartbreak got so severe over the seconds that IShowSpeed had to leave his chair to stand on his feet and express his exasperation properly. However, on doing so, he sparked a chain of events and other attendees took the queue to congratulate the winner with a standing ovation. The entire thing was pretty funny, to be honest: to see a Messi hater mistakenly start off the celebrations hailing the GOAT.

However, Messi didn’t seem too overwhelmed and stood on the podium with a grin. That probably irked IShowSpeed some more by the sheer humility of the legendary former Barcelona player.

The GOAT debate finally concluded?

Despite not having as many goal contributions in 2023 as compared to many of his peers, Messi’s 10-goal involvement during the 2022 World Cup changed everything. The little magician established his position in the soccer realm yet again with a record-setting eighth Ballon d’Or and his fans will certainly exert their bragging rights!

Messi’s latest achievement will surely seal his position. However, Ronaldo does outperform Messi in the ongoing season. Yet, fans of the Portuguese, including IShowSpeed, refuse to hail anyone else as the GOAT. Now we wait to see how the FIFA streamer comes back with his views on this year’s Ballon d’Or verdict in the coming days.
