The 2021 Scottish Open has started at the Renaissance Club. There were plenty of players who scored low in Round 1, which is an unusual thing on this course. Currently, Jack Senior leads the field with a score of -7. Moreover, the featured group comprising Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, and Justin Thomas had a decent start to the tournament.

Among these three players, Justin Thomas had a great front nine. He remained bogey-free in the front nine and scored a couple of birdies and an amazing, 90ft eagle on a par 5, 7th hole. Thomas scored 32 and remained four under par in the first nine holes. On the other hand, Rahm had a good front nine. He scored three birdies, a bogey, and shot 34 to remain two under par in the front nine.
Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy had a poor start as he remained even par through nine holes. He scored three birdies and a disappointing equal number of bogeys. Rory’s struggle with the driver and putter continued, as he missed most of the fairways and putts, which he should have made.

Going into the back nine, Jon Rahm had a phenomenal start as he made three consecutive birdies on 11, 12, and 13 to move up on the leader board. But unfortunately, as he was moving up, he dropped a shot on the 15th to go back to -4. He finally finished with a score of 66 and remained -5 for the tournament.
McIlroy once again had a poor start to a tournament just like the last week. He has made things difficult for himself as his struggle with the tee shots and putting is evident. Rory concluded his frustrating Round 1 with a decent par and scored 70 to remain -1 for the tournament.
World No.3 Justin Thomas had a brilliant first round at the 2021 Scottish Open. He couldn’t capitalize on the momentum he got in the front nine. Thomas had a decent start to the back nine with all pars. He remained bogey-free for the day and made a strong finish with a couple of birdies on the 16th and 18th. Justin has had a dream start to the tournament as he scored 65 and remained -6 for the day.

Course Conditions for the 2021 Scottish Open
The course is playing on an easier side so far. The winds also stayed down throughout the day, giving a lot more birdie opportunities for the players. Moreover, the conditions are soft due to the rain the course has received in the last couple of days. And because of this, the undulations present on the greens aren’t necessarily diabolic as they seem to be. But if the sun remains the way it was today, then the conditions might harden up and make the undulations vicious.
