Leicester City extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table with an impressive victory at Goodison Park as they defeated Everton 2-3. Riyad Mahrez scored a penalty in the 27th minute, but the hosts leveled the score, thanks to the in-form Romelu Lukaku who scored just 5 minutes later. Mahrez then again converted from the penalty-spot in the 65th minute & Shinji Okazaki scored just 4 minutes later, putting Leicester two goals to the good. Everton substitute Kevin Mirallas did scored in the dying moments of the game, but Leicester held their nerve in an exciting finish. Comprising of four divisions until 1991, the top division of English football split up and all the teams in the top division, after multiple discussions with the football authorities and television broadcasters, formed the Premier League in 1992.

The competition format remained the same, with three clubs relegated and three clubs promoted every season, and the top four clubs in the Premier League would qualify for the Champions League.

The main reason for the change in approach was to bring in more money into the game. The first broadcast rights for the Premier League was to be won at ?304?million over five years by Sky UK. The Premier League is the most-watched sports league in the world, broadcast in 212 territories to 643?million homes and a potential TV audience of 4.7?billion people.
