“Everyday 800-900 People Were Dying In Spain” – Rafael Nadal Not Concerned About Effects On His Career

The coronavirus pandemic has suspended the ATP Tour for a while. Some of the experienced players on the Tour are not getting any younger, which might compel them to consider retirement. Check out how Rafael Nadal replied when asked if the suspension could end his tennis career.

In a recent interview with La Voz De Galicia, Rafael Nadal opened up on whether the temporary layoff could end his career. He replied to this by saying,

“No. And I don’t even think about it. Every day 800 or 900 people were dying in Spain. There comes a time when Roland Garros, Wimbledon, US Open are not in my head. When the sport can, it will return. There are other priorities.”

I think this was the answer most of us expected from Rafael Nadal. He is still able to compete well on the ATP Tour so why would he retire? Also, he is motivated to stay on the tour as he is in the race to become the GOAT of tennis. This is a race he definitely wants to win.

The one record that will decide the GOAT of tennis is – the most Grand Slam titles. This record is currently held by Roger Federer but Rafa is close to beating it. With his 2019 US Open win, Rafa took his Grand Slam tally to 19 which is one short of Roger’s 20.

Rafa is definitely thinking about this record which is why he is not even thinking about retirement. He is going to do his best to win the Grand Slam race and establish himself as the GOAT of tennis. That is something every tennis fan will be excited to see.

At the moment, the COVID-19 pandemic has suspended the Tour, disrupting the race temporarily. The Tour will only return in July when we can see the race continue and find out who emerges as the GOAT of tennis.
