Novak Djokovic, who was not even sure that he would play at Wimbledon this year, was crowned the champion earlier this month. Djokovic was pleased with his performance as he looks to gather pace as he preps for his US open campaign.

In the post match press conference, the Serb spoke about the struggles that he faced after returning from his injury break, and how he overcame them.  ‘Obviously, I mean, it’s frustrating when you’ve played so well for seven, eight years and knowing that the level that you play on is not there for you for several months’, said Djokovic. ‘I worked really hard, probably harder than ever, but I just wasn’t able to play at the desired level’.

Djokovic however, returned in spectacular fashion, to lift the Wimbledon trophy. Djokovic, said that the semi-final against Rafael Nadal, was his awakening call, where he truly regained his confidence levels. ‘Confidence is a tricky thing. It takes a lot of time to really get it, and it takes such a short time to lose it’, he said. ‘I thought I did extremely well, especially against Nadal when I needed to, you know, in that thrilling match, and then against Kevin in the finals’, said Djokovic.

‘Wimbledon semifinals was definitely one the best, most exciting matches that I was part of, and that’s not uncommon with Nadal. You know, we had plenty of those in the past’, said the Serb. Novak is now looking to close in the gap between him and the world number one spot, having broken back into the top ten rankings in the ATP singles rankings. Djokovic will reach the fifth position in the rankings, if he is crowned the champion in Toronto this week, from which Roger Federer has already opted out off. The Swiss maestro has announced that he will be playing another two years, however there is a catch to it. Read the entire article here: ‘I will Play Till I am 40’- Roger Federer
