There have been major developments in the world of F1 Esports as of late. Many more drivers will participate in the upcoming Virtual Grand Prix this Sunday. However, the biggest surprise was Charles Leclerc joining Twitch on Saturday night. The Monegasque made his foray into the world of streaming gameplay and he did a bloody good job of it.
Charles Leclerc takes Twitch by storm
Leclerc, Albon, Norris, Latifi and Russell competed in a mock race on F1 2019 before the actual event. Surprisingly, newcomers Albon, Leclerc and Russell were quite good at the game despite having little practice. The unofficial practice session was thoroughly entertaining thanks to some clever banter, driving fails and dirty driving.

One particular incident was when Leclerc had some (alleged) engine issues in his car. As the Monegasque tried to figure out what was going on, Norris chimed in with a clever throwback. Not one that Charles had particularly fond memories of though.

“I have a problem with the engine? Not again!” asked Leclerc.
“Yeah, you’re overheating, Bahrain 2019 all over again!” said Norris cheekily.
At the 2019 Bahrain Grand Prix, Charles suffered a heartbreaking engine issue which saw him hand over the lead and victory to Lewis Hamilton. Leclerc was on course to win his first F1 race but Ferrari’s unreliable engine had other plans.
Baku 2019 flashbacks intensify
In another funny instance, Leclerc trolled himself with a reference to the 2019 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Monegasque unknowingly cut corners while racing around Albert Park and used his infamous quote.
“Oh, I am stupid. I am stupid, you know that”
Fans will recognize the from Leclerc’s horror qualifying session in Baku last year. The Monegasque binned his chances at clinching pole position by crashing in a rather amateur fashion while on a hot lap. Leclerc instantly expressed regret with a remark that went on to become meme-worthy.
