Max Verstappen has his work cut out for Sunday night. Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez, the only mathematical contenders against him, are starting at P1 and P2 at the Singapore GP.

Starting anywhere but pole is a nightmare when you race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. The track is notorious for the conditions it presents drivers with. If there ever was a track one couldn’t depend on overtaking, it had to be here.

Singapore presents numerous technical difficulties while racing. Being a street track, it requires 100% concentration for the whole race, with no chances of breathers as it offers virtually no straights.

Couple that with the hot and humid temperatures in Singapore and you have a tough night on your hands. At 19:00 on Sunday, barely an hour before the race start, Marina Bay made its move.

28 C (83 F) with 77% humidity levels. The drivers would be sweating profusely even before having layered up in their thick, fireproof clothing. To make matters worse, the rain gods wanted their bit of screen time too.

If race start was now there’s no way it would begin. Torrential. All we can hope to get away on time is that it’s a passing deluge. Either way, delay looking likely,” said Will Buxton on a tweet posted 2.5 hours prior to the original race start.

Last season’s showing at Spa, or rather no-show, was a disappointment for fans. A repeat of that event would cause too much heartache, given the stakes involved in today’s race.

Cats and dogs find their way onto Singapore GP and fans are worried

Fans were quick to get their fingers tapping on their phone screens in the hopes the gods and the stewards would listen to them.

It’s not raining, it is POURING!

Safe to say, most fans aren’t happy about it.

Some found their funny bone intact. For some context, last year’s Spa was canceled due to rains after an extremely short race under the safety car.

Given how bad the conditions are, fans are questioning if a race is possible. A washout is not what fans want. They’ll be praying they get the race they waited 2 weeks for.
