For the longest time this season, the biggest question on everyone’s minds was – where is Daniel Ricciardo going to head for 2023? Rumors were strife with suggestions of different teams, but the Mercedes social media team has taken it to a different level altogether.

Daniel Ricciardo arguably spent miserable 2 years at McLaren after he moved to the team from Renault. His form had been so uninspiring that Ricciardo and McLaren mutually terminated the contract. This meant that at the end of the 2022 season, Daniel would be without a seat in F1.

McLaren found his replacement. Another Australian young talent named Oscar Piastri. But Danny could not find a replacement for his McLaren seat, even though a number of F1 teams had (and continue to have) seats available in 2023. Multiple teams reportedly flirted with the idea of recruiting him, but nothing concrete has taken place yet.

Among those considering recruiting the Aussie was Mercedes. The rumor mill really started chugging along in that direction when Ricciardo was spotted exiting the Mercedes hospitality box in Singapore.

Mark Webber, the former F1 driver, said at the time, “I still don’t think he’s sure. A Merc reserve driver role? Who knows how long Lewis (Hamilton) is going to go on for? Merc, a pretty handy operation, so it’s something he might consider.”

However, for most people, the understanding was that Danny had taken his decision. He recently said he had made his peace with the fact that there will be no F1 racing for him in 2023.
