With a seat in F1 racing looking more and more unlikely by the day and by his own admission, there were expectations Daniel Ricciardo would find another form of motor racing to take over. His marvelous skillset and ability left many options open for him. But it looks like he isn’t a big fan of the idea.

It would have been a was a bitter pill for Daniel Ricciardo to part ways with Zak Brown and McLaren. As Ricciardo and his team continued to look for seats in the other teams on the grid, there were strong rumors of an entry into IndyCar for Danny. Brown offered him a seat in IndyCar. But he refused to race for the team in the open-wheel racing championship.

Danny made his views public about the possibility of racing IndyCar. He said, “F*ck that. Ovals scare me. My Formula 1 career slash ambition is not over, so that is really first and foremost. I don’t want to deviate, primarily for that reason.”

But also, ovals? Nah. 10 years ago, I would have said yes, but I’m ok to admit that I’m not ok with ovals.”

“They look fun but I think because I’m not out of F1 yet, I haven’t really entertained it. The fantasizing part of it, America and all that would be fun but yeah, it’s more of a fantasy.”

The last F1 racer who tried his luck in IndyCar was the former Haas driver, Romain Grosjean. But the question is: will Ricciardo’s patience do him good? Only time will tell.

If not IndyCar, what options does Daniel Ricciardo have?

There have been a lot of different stories going around ever since Daniel suffered that abrupt ending to his McLaren career. But new updates signal very good signs for him.

Veteran F1 journalist Ted Kravitz said, “I’ve got some good news for Daniel Ricciardo fans. He might not have a race drive for next year, but I do understand he has closed out a reserve driver drive next year. So he told us on Thursday, he will be around about the F1 paddock next year.”

When asked about the possible destination, he said, “We thought Mercedes, because they now have a vacancy given that Nyck de Vries, their reserve driver is going to AlphaTauri. I’m told it’s not Mercedes. So that only leaves Red Bull, the (only two) teams who have a reserve driver on hand at every race.”

A return to Red Bull as a reserve driver might not give him the opportunity to race, but it’ll at least keep him in the loop. You never know what opportunity arises in a sport as unpredictable as F1.
