This weekend, Formula One is back on the track and on TV screens. Over here, the Formula 1 drivers will race at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola. However, there were talks that Turkey could come back to the F1 calendar like it did last year. In light of this, Fernando Alonso spoke on the prospect of returning there after nearly a decade.
The Spaniard said, “Fantastic, I love Istanbul. I love the track, I never won there but I have good memories of Istanbul. The layout is fantastic to drive in a Formula One car. Last year, we saw a very fun race there and it was tricky with the conditions. I think that people enjoy driving in those conditions. From a driver point of view and the spectators enjoy it a lot, so if we have to come back, I will be very happy.”

The 2005 and 2006 F1 world champion is also excited to see another classic track return to the calendar. Alonso last raced at Imola in 2006, and won the previous year’s edition. Since then, he has gone on to race for McLaren, Ferrari, back to McLaren and finally with Alpine.
In essence, Alpine is just an evolution of the Renault F1 team, the outfit where Alonso last tasted success. However, things may be a whole lot more difficult, especially with Mercedes ruling the roost. The erstwhile Renault F1 team is a pale shadow of what it used to be in the 2005-2006 era.
