“I Was Dyslexic Till I Was 17, I Struggled So Much”- Lewis Hamilton Opens up On His Childhood Battles

Lewis Hamilton is one of the greatest philanthropists in motorsports. In the last few weeks, he has been even more vocal about his social work. Today, for instance, he took to social media to announce himself becoming the Brand Ambassador of Together Band.  This is an organization that is committed to achieving the 17 Global United Nations Goals.

Lately, the role of sports in society is being questioned by critiques. Fortunately, a bunch of sportspersons has reinstated this lost role. This includes footballer Marcus Rashford and Hamilton himself who, just today have made significant contributions in the field of education.

In his latest video post, Mercedes driver Hamilton speaks to a bunch of students at Alperton Community School, England regarding winning mentalities and how they can be achieved through quality education. In the caption, he quotes Nelson Mandela saying “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Firstly, he gives a motivational talk to a group of students. This is regarding his life story and how he overcame challenges to become the person he is today. Something very similar to his interview with David Letterman. An episode where he spoke about the challenges of growing up in a family that constantly pushed him towards success.

He says, “I had a difficult time in school. My dad drilled into me a Never-Give –Up-mentality. I still have failures today. You are constantly gonna be learning.  Do not get affected by them. They are a part of your journey to success.”

Subsequently, he talks about the challenges of growing up with dyslexia. He emphasizes the role of education to a bunch of specially-abled children. Post which he displays the goal of the campaign, “Goal 4: Quality Education”. Thus, reinforcing not only its importance but his role in the same.

“Join me in helping to spread awareness for quality education by wearing this #TOGETHERBAND. I’m sharing my second band with my good friend, @serenawilliams, who cares deeply about children, and their right to a good education.”, concluded the post.
