“If Christian Horner Shat His Pants, He’d Blame the Pants”: F1 Fans Rage Against Red Bull Boss for Simply Pointing Fingers at Lando Norris at Japanese GP

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen will consider himself a very lucky guy. Many thought that the incident involving him and Lando Norris during Q3 at Suzuka should have invited a stricter penalty. The Dutch driver, however, got away with a reprimand.

Verstappen had taken the provisional pole in Q3. He was on an out lap and so was Lando Norris. Running at a fairly high speed, Norris was just behind Verstappen when the latter turned sharply into him while trying to bring heat into his tires. The McLaren driver was luckily quick to react and avoided a collision which could have gone very wrong for both of the drivers.

Before the FIA’s verdict came in, Red Bull boss Christian Horner, made his feelings known about the investigation. Reportedly, Horner said, “They are both on outlaps, and there’s a gentlemen’s agreement at that part of the circuit [130R] to hold position, but Lando decided to jump the queue…”

The statement, however, did not go down well with the fans.

One particular fan thought that Verstappen and Horner have a habit of playing the victim.

Another fan had a funny, sarcastic take on Horner’s statement.

What happened during the investigation of the Max Verstappen-Lando Norris incident?

The race stewards quickly noted the incident, and an investigation was pending after the session. FIA called both drivers in to seek an explanation for the incident. According to Sky Sports, Norris earlier blamed Verstappen for the incident.

However, after discovering there was no malicious intent by Verstappen, he told the Stewards that it was just an “unfortunate incident”. Later in the evening, the verdict came in that Verstappen received a reprimand and was allowed to keep the pole position.

Before Norris termed the incident unfortunate and blamed Verstappen for turning into him, the latter advised the Briton to be “a bit more respectful.”

He said, “we were on our out-lap and we were all lining up to try to create a gap to everyone, and somehow he still wanted to get me into the chicane, but I was at the point of acceleration, but I was on very cold tires so I had a little moment and that’s why he had to drive around me.”

The defending champion continued, “But if you’re just a bit more respectful, then everyone is anyway already lining up. I don’t think anyone is trying to pass into that last chicane, so basically by trying to pass me you create that kind of problem.”
