The race for the World Drivers’ Championship and the World Constructors’ Championship did not hold out as long and as late as it did in 2021. The reason? Simple – Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing’s dominating performances all season long. But for them, the season hasn’t still ended.

In the 19 races that have taken place, Verstappen has won 13 amassing 391 points. His partner, Perez, is in 3rd place with 265 points, just two points shy of Charles Leclerc in 2nd. Similarly, Red Bull clinched the WCC in Austin, their score totaling 656 after the race. The next best team – Ferrari – has 469 points; a difference of 187 points. Historically, the highest points accumulated in the WCC was by Mercedes in 2016 when they scored 765 at the end of the season.

Red Bull can beat the record if they secure P1-P2 in all the 3 remaining races; that too by a margin of 20 points. Given how dominant their car has been for the 19 races already completed, it’s not too far-fetched to believe this too can be done. That’s not the only record that can be broken. Verstappen equaled Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel’s shared record of most wins in a season. He only needs one more win to eclipse that longstanding record. He has his eyes set on the 3 races and is not sitting back.

He said to Motorsport, “We have now secured the drivers’ and constructors’ championship, but we also want to win here. We will continue to push and do everything we can to stay competitive for the rest of the season. We always do a good job as a team in Mexico. It was absolutely incredible to win there last year and we hope to do the same this year.” (Translated via Google)

Verstappen and Checo will both be very excited about the weekend in Mexico. The team has a chance to make history, and they aren’t the ones to give up on chances like these so easily.

Could Max Verstappen help out Sergio Perez for a home GP win?

There are a number of angles going on as we head to Mexico City. Sergio Perez’s homecoming is one, with the other being Verstappen’s possible setting of a new record for most wins in a season.

Perez has been instrumental in Max’s title wins in both years – first in Abu Dhabi in 2021, and this year in Japan. But he feels he doesn’t need a handout in order to win in Mexico. Perez said, “I don’t need to be given anything, everything without any gifts for so many years – not that it is necessary. In the end, I don’t think about it. I think about my work, about being perfect this weekend and looking for that victory [in Mexico].”

“I think in the end it’s normal, we all want to win. I think if it’s a situation where it’s different, where it’s a different help, I have no doubt he would do it like I have done with him in the past. In the end, I want the next three races left in the championship. Second or third is a good thing, no doubt, to have a runner-up in the World Championship, but for me, the important thing is to be champion,” Perez explained.
