Though fans will remember the 2021 F1 season for the epic title fight between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz’s performance was surely an eye-catcher. The Spaniard had a dream 2021 season with the Ferrari team. Sainz put up a series of impressive performances with Mclaren in 2019 and 2020. When Sebastian Vettel parted ways with Ferrari, Sainz was offered his seat and he made the most out of this opportunity.

Though not at the top spot, the Spaniard reached the podium 4 times in 2021. The F1 community lauded him for his consistency through the tense season. He finished 20 out of the 22 races in points with no DNFs.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko took Carlos Sainz to Toro Rosso back in 2015. Sainz stayed with the team till 2017 and then switched to Renault and later McLaren, before finally reaching Ferrari. With new regulations in place for the 2022 season, many are expecting Ferrari to compete for races and podiums regularly.

After a disastrous 2020 season, the Red Team rectified issues with their power unit, and the results were clearly visible in 2021, as they finished 3rd in the constructors’ standings.

Sainz can compete for title in 2022 alongside Max Verstappen

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has followed Sainz’s career graph closely. The Spaniard was a part of the Red Bull junior program which Marko headed. In a recent interview reported by SoyMotor, Marko was all praises for Sainz. However, the Red Bull advisor commented a little harshly on his teammate Leclerc.

“Carlos is a very good racing driver, the fact that he left Red Bull was not due to his performances. In any case, it has shown that Leclerc is probably not the miracle child that many have thought he was,” said the Austrian.

Moreover, he also believes that Sainz is well-suited to be a championship contender if Ferrari can provide him with the right car. “Due to the rule change, it is difficult to make predictions for this season. But if Ferrari causes quite a stir with the new car, Carlos can certainly compete for the title,” added Marko.
