The reason it’s not kept on Friday is due to religious beliefs and a holiday on Thursday makes it easier to block traffic, so that the practice session can take place.

The reason the Monaco GP has the free practice session on Thursday
The main reason is tied to Easter, as Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven. As Thursday was given as a holiday it’s easier to hold the first practice session of the Grand Prix and easier to block the traffic as well.

Who’s the favorite to win at Monaco?
Lewis Hamilton won the previous round in Spain and will be hoping to carry the same form as he zips around the circuit at Monaco. However, Max Verstappen would push the limits of his car to get past the Mercedes driver to help him get points for the championship.
The Monaco GP would be Charles Leclerc’s home race and having not gotten the chance to race last year due to the pandemic, he would like to give it his best shot.
