The F1 world was stunned when they heard about the tragic accident of Michael Schumacher in the French Alps back in 2013. The record championship holder suffered a severe brain injury in a skiing accident. Doctors had to place him in a medically induced coma. However, it’s not him who is in the news today, it’s his nephew.

David Schumacher suffered a horrific crash in the DTM championship. He retired from race after suffering a back injury at Hockenheim last week. David will miss six weeks of action due to the same. David was treated at the accident site. However, Ralf Schumacher, David’s father, said he complained about back pain after coming home.

They then took David to a hospital in Salzburg for an MRI, where they learned about his son’s injury. Ralf said, “When David came home, he still complained of back pain. We then decided to visit a hospital in Salzburg to have an MRI. It turned out that a lumbar vertebra is broken.”

Ralf also mentioned that David Schumacher will not require any surgery to treat the injury. The collision happened with the 2-time DTM race winner, Thomas Preining.

David’s mother said, “David is doing well so far, that’s the most important thing. Nevertheless, I have to say that I find it absolutely not okay of Thomas Preining to express himself negatively about our son every time without any self-reflection.”

The race in which David suffered his injuries was also the final race of the 2022 season of DTM. Sheldon van der Linde won this year’s edition.

Having won 12 races already in the season so far, Max Verstappen will be looking to break this Michael Schumacher record in the US GP. Michael and his compatriot Sebastian Vettel hold the record for most race wins in a calendar year, which is 13. However, it is worth mentioning that Schumacher won 13 races in an 18-race calendar, whereas Seb did the same in 19 races.

Verstappen has the opportunity to match the German legend’s records at the upcoming race in Austin. If not in US, he will have plentiful opportunities since this year we have 22 races. F1 travels to Mexico and Brazil after the US GP before concluding the season in the Abu Dhabi GP.

Verstappen won last year’s US GP edition after he started the race in the pole position. Max said, “There is no real pressure anymore but I still want to of course try and win more races,” Verstappen told reporters on Sunday.

He also said, “Because with the car we have now, you have to try and take advantage of that. You don’t know if you’re ever going to have that again, next year, in the years to come. So, we’ll definitely try to win a few more.”

However, Red Bull boss Helmut Marko is not prioritizing Verstappen’s most wins in a season record chase. Instead, he is backing Sergio Perez in his fight for P2 in the championship against Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
