After spending 6 years with them, Sebastian Vettel has not just parted ways with the Ferrari F1 team. He has chosen to part ways with the Ferrari cars present in his private luxury car collection as well.

The German elected to put up eight of his cars, including five Ferraris, up for sale with a renowned car dealer and saw them get picked up like hotcakes. 

This led to unsubstantiated rumors of him trying to remove himself of every vestige of Ferrari in his garage. It was also rumored that he would be looking to make room for cars from his employer, Aston Martin.

He dispelled these rumors in an interview (translated via Google) at the Aston Martin car launch. 

Why did Sebastian Vettel get rid of the Ferrari cars?

The German enumerated his reasoning behind auctioning off his cars. He said, “The reason for this was to create a bit of space. I’m very busy in my life, so I don’t have the time to enjoy and drive around and do nothing – so no big secrets.”

He confirmed that he is not looking to get even with Ferrari in that manner after his unceremoniously ousting from the Italian team.

“[I was] not happy with the way it went. But I accepted it, lived through it and don’t regret it. Ultimately, I’m really looking forward to this year.”

He also addressed the issue of his hunger for success at his advanced age. The 33-year-old said, “In terms of age I feel like I have it inside of me, but then it depends on the circumstances how things go in the near future.

“Our unofficial goal is third place and for that we have to be ahead of Ferrari, but for me it is not a personal satisfaction to land in front of them.”

Can the German make his renaissance in 2021?

Sebastian Vettel had his worst-ever season in 2020 when he finished a disappointing 13th place in the standings. He struggled to get out of Q1 during qualifying, at times. According to some, this was a signal of his decline, problems with the car notwithstanding. 

He would be looking to put that behind him and will be refreshed by the small team atmosphere with Aston Martin. The German would find it similar to the environment which was present at Red Bull during his heyday.

Despite his public declarations, he will also be very motivated to pull one across his former employers. He will be at a team that was very close to finishing third in the standings. This team will also be powered by Mercedes power units, and that would work in the German’s favor.
