Only Scarlet Prince Charles Leclerc Included in Ferrari Champion Dreams as Binotto Reveals the Real Truth

Ferrari has had a much better season than most would have predicted. The legendary team has finally made its comeback to the top after a period that was dominated by Mercedes and Red Bull.

While the eyes had been on Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton’s rivalry, Ferrari has made its strides towards the top. Both their drivers have performed well and if not for certain moments, we could have had a much closer title race.

Charles Leclerc is currently at P2 on the Drivers’ Standings having scored 219 points. Carlos Sainz is at P5 with 187 points. Similarly, Ferrari is at P2 on the Constructors Standings with 406 points.

John Elkann of the Agnelli family said that Ferrari aims to win the title by 2026, with Leclerc at the top. This brought obvious questions to the fore – is Charles the #1 at Ferrari?

Talking to Sky Italia, Mattia Binotto insists that is not the case. He said “I think what our chairman meant is that if we look at the current season, Charles has been faster than Carlos on average and he’s also been on pole more often. The goal is to win the world championship and that goes for both drivers.”

These current standings will not bear fruits for them in the form of championships. However, it is healthy progress. The progress towards achieving the lost glory of the Tifosi.

How does Carlos Sainz’s future look in the Ferrari seat?

As questions about Ferrari’s policy and choice for #1 and #2 drivers were raised, there were also doubts as to whether Carlos Sainz will remain in the Italian outfit next season.

Sainz has performed decently well, scoring 187 points over the course of 16 races. He has supported his teammate and provided valuable points for the Constructors Championship.

Ferrari has rewarded the Spaniard with an extension, meaning he will drive for the team till 2024.

Binotto has supported Carlos as well. He said, “I think Carlos is a strong racing driver’s proven that over the past years and he’s proving it again this season. He always scores a lot of points on Sundays, he’s learning and he’s fast too. So it’s fair that we as a team give both drivers the same chances at least at the start of the season.”
