Red Bull Racing find themselves in an uncanny situation of sorts. They were already on the lookout for a new driver beyond 2024 as Sergio Perez is in his last year of contract. However, now it looks like the Milton-Keynes squad might also need a replacement for Max Verstappen as rumors of his departure from the team pick up pace amidst the rising chaos within the team stemming from the ongoing investigation into its motorsport advisor, Dr. Helmut Marko, who the Dutchman remains loyal to. Luis Pérez Sala, a seasoned figure in the world of motorsport, believes that Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz might be a good fit for Red Bull.

Regarding the internal conflict within Red Bull Racing, particularly involving team principal Christian Horner, Sala believes it could impact on-track performance negatively, emphasizing the importance of unity within the team. In a recent conversation with AS, Sala was asked about Fernando Alonso’s future prospects with Red Bull. He responded, Yes, they are going to be a very entertaining few months. Of course, Fernando can be of interest to the big teams because we already know the type of driver he is. Both he and Carlos can go to Red Bull. The market is going to move quite a bit and until Monza, at the end of August, which is when they are usually defined and all the seats are going to attend an interesting game of chess.”

For now, Fernando Alonso remains committed to the Aston Martin project, but even the Silverstone-based team thinks it could prove hard to keep Alonso beyond 2024.

Mike Krack believes Fernando Alonso could switch teams in 2025

Fernando Alonso will celebrate his 43rd birthday this year in July. And despite his age, which is considered relatively old for the sport, there’s still a possibility that he might continue racing in Formula 1. But whether he’ll stick with Aston Martin or explore opportunities with another team is uncertain. Aston Martin is eager to extend his contract beyond 2024. However, team boss Mike Krack acknowledges the allure of offers from rival teams. According to Krack, drivers of Alonso’s caliber are highly sought after across the grid.

It is clear that a driver of that caliber is attractive to everybody. That is clear,” Krack was quoted by Mirror.co.uk. “But we will try to keep him. We have seen that last year already when he joined, it’s not only what he brings in terms of driving talent and race craft – he brings this extra drive, push, and motivation to everybody.”

While Ferrari and McLaren have their driver line-ups secured for 2025, Mercedes and Red Bull are facing decisions about their driver pairing. It’s plausible that Alonso, with his wealth of experience, would be considered by these top teams. Although Alonso hasn’t disclosed his plans, he hasn’t dismissed the idea of retirement either. Expressing his desire to continue working with Alonso, Krack emphasized the importance of providing him with a competitive car to maintain his commitment to the team.

Alonso is a prominent contender at Mercedes, especially as a short-term option if Wolff decides to introduce young talent like Andrea Kimi Antonelli to Formula 1 elsewhere. Where do you think Fernando Alonso will end up in 2025? Will he even want to continue racing in Formula 1?
