Revealed: The Crazy Plans For $240 Million Worth F1 Extravaganza – Las Vegas GP

The 2023 Formula One calendar was released recently and the new season will feature 24 races, as opposed to 22 in the current season. Surprisingly, that is not what has drawn the most attention. The center of attention for fans is the introduction of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix is set to be the third US event in 2023. There is plenty of excitement among fans around this fixture. The fixture will be the penultimate race of the season. Not just this, it will be an event spread across 4 days, with the race day scheduled for Saturday night. However, the lights-out is scheduled for 10 PM PST, making it 1 AM for the East Coast.

Las Vegas Grand Prix a 4-day spectacle

The penultimate fixture will be spread over four days. Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali said that the schedule will kick off on Wednesday with a “star-studded” opening ceremony. Thursday will be scheduled for practice, with qualifying on Friday.

The F1 boss said, “The Las Vegas Grand Prix is going to take F1 race weekends to the next level”. He continued, “Staging a Grand Prix in the sports and entertainment capital of the world has allowed us to plan a truly spectacular celebration that has never been seen in our sport before, in the greatest arena on earth”.

The 10 PM local time lights-out will mean that the fans in the UK and Europe will have to become early risers. For the UK, the race will start at 6 AM, and for most other European countries, at 7 AM.

F1’s $240 million investment in Las Vegas GP

The Grand Prix will be a street race, including the famous Las Vegas Strip. While in most other Grand Prix, the organizers pay Formula One a set fee to host the race, The Las Vegas event will be an exception. Reportedly, F1, along with Liberty Media, and subsidiary Live Nation, among others, will take the responsibility of hosting the event.

Liberty Media CEO and President Greg Maffei revealed the plans for a $240 million investment. He said, “Liberty Media did enter an agreement to acquire 39 acres east of the strip to lock in circuit design and capacity for the pits and paddock, among other hospitality and race support venues”.
