With every passing generation comes a new set of fans and these fans have a very short-termed memory. By that we mean they see what’s in front of their eyes and not the past. They make affiliations with present-day heroes and not the legacy. This is exactly how Michael Schumacher had such a great impact on Germany with his racing prowess. However, ever since Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel’s glory days, Germans have not had much to cheer on. This is why AlphaTauri’s German boss believes “only heroes trigger a boom” and Germany is in dire need of one.

Schumacher became a household name, and the circus was traveling to Germany twice in a season. Similarly, Boris Becker, the former World No. 1 and youngest Wimbledon championship winner, also had a huge impact on tennis in Germany. However, for a long time, the popularity of at least Formula 1 is on a decline in the German continent. Speaking to F1-Insider, Tost explained the nature of the German fans.

The German then revealed who he believes could be the next German hero who can help save the dying love of F1 in Germany. “He (Mick Schumacher) could have become the new hero, but unfortunately he’s out of the premier class for now. Which I think is a shame,” he revealed.

Mick Schumacher lost out on his seat to more experienced fellow countryman Nico Hulkenberg at Haas. “I would have liked to have seen him at AlphaTauri, not because of the name, but because I believe in his talent and abilities. Because you don’t just win the Formula 3 and Formula 2 championships. But unfortunately, it didn’t work out in the end,” he said.
There is still hope for Mick Schumacher as a couple of drivers have already taken the reserve driver role and gotten a seat. The German boss believes he has the talent to make it in F1.
