23 Grand Slam in the open era, 73 overall career titles, and the holder of ‘Serena Slam’, Tennis titan Serena Williams needs no introduction. The American superstar is undoubtedly one of the GOAT of the game and has revolutionized the sport with her sister, Venus. However, she suffered one of her rare bitter memories during the 2018 US Open Finals against Naomi Osaka. Moreover, F1 legend Lewis Hamilton came to defend his close friend after the American’s outburst.

Williams and Hamilton have shared a fond friendship with each other over the years. The Tennis icon has been spotted in multiple F1 races supporting the Mercedes star. But Serena suffered an unfortunate loss of temper in her 2017 finals against Naomi Osaka. The chair umpire, Carlos Ramos, handed Williams a series of code violations against her.

The American was later handed a point penalty, as well as a game penalty against her. Furthermore, she also labeled the umpire a “Liar” and a “cheat”. Osaka eventually won the match 6-2, 6-4, and lifted her maiden Grand Slam in Tennis.

When a GOAT came in support of another GOAT

Serena’s behavior in the US GP had split opinions about her behavior. However, she had a staunch supporter in F1 GOAT, Lewis Hamilton. The 103-race winner took to his social media to show his support for the 6-time US Open champion.

Hamilton captioned, “Forever a champion. This day was sent for a reason, so that you could fulfil your purpose. What you stand for is far greater than any game won, you’re an inspiration for the world and I’m inspired by you.”

The 7-time champion also congratulated the 2018 US Open champion, Naomi Osaka in his post. He wrote, “Congrats to Naomi Osaka, it’s so great to see the mix of cultures and to see people breaking down barriers. #champions #goat”

Serena Williams mentions Lewis Hamilton in her GOAT list

Lewis Hamilton is undoubtedly one of the Greatest drivers to grace Formula 1. He has not only enhanced the sport on the track but is also making major waves off it. Moreover, Serena Williams, who is a close friend of Hamilton, mentioned him on her list of GOATs in her recent interview.

The Tennis Queen mentioned Lewis as the first name on her list. She stated, “Oh my gosh. I mean, I think Lewis Hamilton, obviously,” Williams told TIME magazine.

She further stated, “I mean, for me, he’s not only the greatest, but also he does so much, and he’s an amazing guy.” 

Serena also included NBA superstars LeBron James and Michael Jordan as well as Golf sensation Tiger Woods on her esteemed list of GOATs. Furthermore, she also put her name on the list. Given her accomplishments and her contribution to tennis, one can hardly argue with her decision.
